The Age of Invention

P2/3 had a great day at the People's Palace at our "Age of Invention" workshop. Our guide for the day was Caroline and she showed us how different things had evolved over time into the gadgets we have today.

We started with a time-line guessing game to guess when things were invented:

We saw "The Steamie" where women used to go to do their washing:

Kathryn got made to do some washing on the washboard and was exhausted!

We saw a "single-end" and couldn't believe that up to 10 people might live in that one tiny room:

We put telephones in order of old to new and discussed how their design had changed over time:

Then after lunch we went to a fantastic park just next to the People's Palace:

A good day was had by all!

  1. That old wash board was talk of the steamie last night. Great photos of the museum and it sure does look a fantstic park. Such high climbing frames which David really enjoyed.
